How To Get Gorgeous, Glowing Skin This Summer

Posted on
blog header- How to get glowing skin this summer Nothing says summer like gorgeous, glowing skin. And the great news is that you don’t have to be born with it, or spend millions of dollars to get it! Healthy, radiant skin is totally achievable for every woman, you just need the right combination of food, drink and self-care to get it. Here’s how:

Start your day with a green smoothie

We absolutely love green smoothies here at Bohemian Mama! Not only are they super delish, but they’re packed full of skin friendly nutrients. For extra skin boosting goodness, try this simple recipe. The cucumber is high in silica, whilst the kale and spinach are rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants; ginger aids circulation and healthy circulation = glowing skin! Gorgeous Skin Green Smoothie Recipe
  • 1 ripe pear
  • 1 handful organic kale,
  • 1 handful organic spinach
  • Squeeze of lemon
  • 1 inch of ginger
  • Half a cucumber
  • 1 tablespoon of pumpkin seeds.
  • Water to achieve desired consistency.
Blitz and drink straight away!

Strike a (yoga) pose

Yoga is great for your body and your skin. Regular practice helps to reduce stress (less wrinkles from all that frowning) and increase blow flow, giving skin a healthy glow. Poses that increase blood flow towards the face - like headstands or downward dog - give the best skin boosting benefits. We love the Forward Fold With Hands Clasped pose from this recent MindBodyGreen article: 4 Yoga Poses That Will Give Your Skin A Gorgeous Glow.

Eat more healthy fats

Eventually, what you eat and drink shows itself through your skin, which means stuffing yourself with junk food everyday could mean disaster for your complexion. Natural, healthy fats are essential for balancing blood sugar, absorbing fat soluble vitamins and hydrating your skin from within. Great sources of healthy fats include:
  • Avocado
  • Egg yolks
  • Coconut oil
  • Ghee
  • Grass-fed Butter
  • Salmon
  • Walnuts

Cleanse and exfoliate regularly

[caption id="attachment_593" align="alignleft" width="244"]Bohemian mama, glowing skin Cleanse & exfoliate regularly for glowing skin[/caption] Clogged pores can lead to pimples, so be sure to clean your skin with a PH-neutral Cleanser every morning and evening. If you’re a city mama, it’s likely that your skin will be exposed to a variety of pollutants and ever country dwelling mamas will be battling dust, dirt and pollen, carried in the breeze. Use a gentle exfoliator to scrub away impurities twice a week. Choose a mild, natural exfoliator that contains glycolic or lactic acid or get busy in the kitchen and whip up your own sugar or salt scrub.

Drink more water

Yes, yes, we know you’ve probably heard this a thousand times but that’s because it’s SO damn important! Water really is a powerful tonic for your skin, without enough hydration, your skin will feel dry, itchy and tight and could even be more prone to wrinkling… Noooo! On the other hand, drinking at least eight glasses a day helps to maintain your balance of body fluids, energise your muscles, keep your kidneys in tip top condition, flush out unwanted toxins, keep your joints supple, your hair glossy and your skin glowing. Gorgeous!

Get more sleep

[caption id="attachment_600" align="alignnone" width="640"]Bohemian Mana, get glowing skin this summer Make time for me time for the sake of your skin![/caption] It’s not called beauty sleep for nothing ladies! While you sleep you skin is busy repairing damage and regenerating, so a lack of sleep or several nights of broken sleep, soon starts to show in your skin. Short-term effects of sleep deprivation like dark circles, puffy eyes and a dull complexion can all be eased with plenty of hydration and a good skincare routine; but long term sleep deprivation can lead to more serious skin problems. These might include fine lines and wrinkles, saggy-looking skin and even hyperpigmentation. So… make time for dream time, your skin (and most probably your sanity) needs it! Like this?
